Hi, my name is Alice Burnett, (Montclair still has my last name as Zvaleuskas), I got remarried on 2/16/08 and changed my name.
I work as a history/psychology teacher at Ridgewood High School which is enjoyable most of the time. I have a masters degree is History, and am now in the admin program to obtain further credentials in Educational Leadership. I currently teach US 2 Honors and Psychology Honors and I am the most knowledgeable in the area of slavery and racism throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
I live in Ridgewood from Monday to Friday and then commute to my house in Surf City every weekend and also live there all summer, so travel can be hectic. My husband lives in Surf City. I have three daughters from my first marriage and one goes to Montclair (she is 20) and the other two are in the Ridgewood schools, 17 and 13.
I enjoy bowling, I bowl on Wednesday nights in a mixed league. My goal is to bowl a 300 this season, I have come close so many times but always choke down the stretch. I average 170 -180 range.
I enjoy the beach, spending time with family and friends and meeting new people. I look forward to interacting with everyone in the class and sharing school experiences as well as learning more about administration.

Hi Alice-
With all that driving, I hope you have a hybrid car!
Bowling is fun, but I've never been very good. My kids love it, but only when the bumpers are up. (I know that might be seen as cheating).
What kind of history do you teach? Do you have a certain era or country that you enjoy the most?
Dear Alice,
It sounds like you have a very busy life!
I drive by Ridgewood High School all the time. It is a beautiful school.
How do you like living in Ridgewood? It is such a great town. The main strip on Ridgewood Avenue has so many great stores and places to eat. My favorite place to eat in Ridgewood is the Pancake House. The portions are huge! However, I also go to The Daily Treat diner very often. Let me just say that you are so lucky to live in such a nice town!
Also, it must be so nice to be able to "escape" to the beach on the weekend. I, like Professor Bachenheimer, hope that you have a hybrid car! However, I wonder if it would be possible for you to take the train since it stops in your town.
I also enjoy bowling a lot. Unfortunately, as life has become more and more hectic, I have had less and less time to bowl. The last time I bowled in a league my average was 202. My high game was 289.
I look forward to working with you and sharing experiences with you throughout the semester.
Sincerely,
Marc Vogel
I love Ridgewood! It is so nice and very similiar to my town, Chatham. We looked to move to Ridgewood but it was too far for my husband to commute. That's awesome that you have a weekend home at the shore. I bet you had a great time down there this summer!
I also live in Bergen County. I think it is awesome to have a beach house. I use my friends all the time during the summer. I try to rotate using different friends' houses. It must be a little weird to be going to college almost "with" your daughter.
I've been to the Pancake House as well-it really is pretty good.
I wish I could get those scores in Wii bolwing. My poor little Mii has a terrible average score.
